Can Communicate Brings 3D Russian Ballet To MIPCOM

Can Communicate, the 3D film and TV production specialist, has announced that it holds the distribution rights to two prestigious Russian ballet performances filmed in stereoscopic 3D, which were staged earlier this year at the world-famous Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg.
The ballets, also produced by Can, comprise a gala performance featuring some of Russia's most prominent dancers performing scenes from five different ballets including Swan Lake and Carmen and a complete performance of Giselle.
The productions will be available to purchase from Can at MIPCOM 2010, Stand 11.20 Pod 27.
The ballet performances were commissioned as live broadcasts by General Satellite Corporation as a prelude to the launch of its 3DTV channel. Can co-ordinated and produced each of the shoots using a zooming, multicamera live 3D solution and also post-produced each event for future broadcasts.
Denis Romanov, Technical Director of the 3D broadcast project from the Mariinsky Theatre, said: "General Satellite Corporation was insistent on working with one of the global leaders of 3D content production. We were very pleased with Can's significant contribution to the project. General Satellite was satisfied both with the high quality of the live broadcast and with the quality of final product."
Chris Dyer, Business Development Director and Partner, Can Communicate, said: "We are very proud to be working with the very best at the Mariinsky Theatre and we couldn't have wished for two more beautiful or illustrative subjects of stereoscopic 3D to offer as a first time exhibitor at MIPCOM. These performances show exactly how the 3D format can enhance television and give the viewer a real sense of being present at otherwise exclusive performances."
