Last Call For UK Student Film Festival
The University of Salford and Cornerhouse are looking for submissions to the UK's largest student film festival - 'exposures: New Talent in Moving Image Festival' to be submitted by July 30.
The Festival, which is in its 17th year, runs each November in Manchester. It represents a major opportunity for student film-makers to have their work seen by key people in the industry which, in 2009, included Shameless creator and Festival patron, Paul Abbott; and Noel Clarke, the writer and director of Adulthood and Kidulthood.
As well as film screenings, which are open to the public, the festival also features workshops and seminars for higher education students to pitch their ideas to producers, and writers' forums, documentary forums and hands-on workshops with leading TV directors about working with actors on such shows as Waterloo Road.
Last year, 480 films from across the UK were entered and the winners have since gone on to work for organisations such as the BBC, Guardian and ITV.
This year's deadline for entry is July 30 and the competition is open to anyone who has produced film or moving image artwork since August 2009 whilst studying at an HE institution in the UK.
Beth Hewitt, from the University of Salford is the Festival Co-Director. She said: "The festival is a platform for industry people to search out emerging talent in all areas related to their profession. Not just writers and directors, but camera operators and sound people have all been recruited through exposures.
"Students get unrivalled networking and profile raising opportunities because the industry is aware of the calibre of entrants."
The University of Salford has a large number of links with the media industries. From late 2011, the University will have 103,000sq ft at MediaCityUK - at the heart of five national BBC departments and only two miles from the main University campus.
The University facility will be a hub for community and business collaboration and cutting-edge research across disciplines including media, journalism, public health and digital technology.
