Tim Corrie Becomes BAFTA Chairman
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced that Tim Corrie will become its new Chairman.
Mr Corrie, the 40th Chairman of the Academy during its 63 year history, succeeds David Parfitt, following his two-year tenure.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Corrie said: "I am honoured to become Chairman of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. As the first agent working in the arena of film and television production to assume this role, I trust that some negotiating skills will stand me in good stead as I succeed David Parfitt, a great exponent of the Academy over the past two years.
"I want to continue to make the BAFTA name synonymous with excellence, not just through our Awards, but also through our debates, events and lectures. I want to see our Learning and Events programme remain at the very core of our activities, consolidate our vital work in the video games sector and strengthen our ties with our branches in Scotland, Wales and the USA."
Tim Corrie started his career at Paramount Pictures and in 1971 was invited to join the agency Fraser and Dunlop Scripts to help it develop in the realms of film and television. He worked for the company - which became PFD - for more than thirty years and held the role of Co-Chairman.
In 2007, along with 80 colleagues, Tim left to found a new agency, United Agents, where he continues to represent a large roster of clients, including some of the finest writers, directors and producers in the country.
A long-time BAFTA member, he joined its Television Committee in 2005, became the Committee's Deputy Chairman in 2008 and subsequently Deputy Chairman of the Academy in 2009.
