Omneon and PBS partner to deliver content

After an extensive selection process, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) has chosen Omneon's Media Server System for its Technical Operations Centre (TOC).
In addition to awarding the TOC project to Omneon, PBS and Omneon have agreed to collaborate on joint development of video server technology to address the requirements of PBS and it member stations. Starting in September, PBS member stations will be receiving content from PBS headquarters in Alexandria, via Omneon's Media Server.
The servers will be used to acquire, store, archive and distribute content to its 349 member stations. The implementation of the Omneon Server System technology will allow PBS to meet its objective to provide higher levels of service quality and support to its member stations.
"The decision to work with Omneon and standardize on their Media Server System was the result of months of evaluation with various vendors," said John Tollefson, vice president and chief technology officer for PBS Engineering and Technical Services. "Omneon was selected because of their advanced architecture and technology, and excellent support. Omneon's product is well suited for the changing world of television and the demanding needs of PBS."
The collaborative development between PBS and Omneon will ensure the delivery of key technology and products. This partnership will allow each company to openly share project and development plans at very early stages in order to optimise resources, and guarantee that projects and products meet the objectives of both companies.
