Cherrybomb Gets UK Distribution

News Image
A regional-made movie, Cherrybomb, which tells the story of two best friends locked in fierce rivalry for the same girl as she seductively encourages a ruthless competition for her heart, has achieved national distribution.
The Northern Ireland-based film shows Michelle (Kimberley Nixon) testing the limits of Luke (Robert Sheehan) and Malachy's (Rupert Grint) friendship, and how far each of them is willing to go to win her over.
But what starts off as an uneventful summer soon transforms into a wild ride of drinking, drugs and sex - with devastating consequences that will change the lives of all three teenagers forever.
Last October, Cherrybomb, was still looking for a distributor to get it to the big screen, despite it winning accolades at numerous movie festivals, including the Berlin Film Festival in February.
It also got another airing at the LA Irish Film Festival last September with fans even starting a petition calling on film distributors to take action.
The film also stars established actor James Nesbitt, alongside the newcomers, and represented a joint directional project from Lisa Barros D'Sa and Glenn Leyburn, (pictured).
Belfast-based Leyburn is known as a designer and music video director and Barros D'Sa as a writer and development executive.
Cherrybomb marked the second film from Mark Huffam and Simon Bosanquet's Generator Entertainment.
They have partnered with Belfast-based Michael Casey's Green Park Films, who developed the project with Brian Kirk, and James Flynn's Dublin-based Octagon Films.
