Bowtie define new OB unit

Bowtie Television will commission their latest High Definition outside broadcast unit in September.
The 13.6 metre trailer with fully expanding side represents a major investment for the Crayford based company.
"We see the High Definition market as the way forward," explained Managing Director, John Knopp. "It will only be a short time before many broadcasters and others will be looking for HD trucks for major Light Entertainment programmes and music events such as classical concerts and opera."
He continued: "At the moment, many High Definition productions involve using camcorders with the subsequent lengthy editing and grading sessions. With our OB unit, producers can enjoy the benefits of multi camera coverage with the superior quality of HD."
The Bowtie unit, which is currently being built by Spectra Specialist Engineering, will have a capacity for up to 20 cameras. Camera switching is via a Philips XtenDD-3 vision mixer with 2.5 ME banks and four channel effects processing for standard definition and an XtenHD for High Definition.
A small satellite switching panel is also available to enable a separate SDI and High Definition cut to be provided. "This facility enables clients to send a different feed to, say, large screens at an event, from that which is being transmitted live or recorded for broadcast," Knopp noted.
