Foyle Kids Eye-up 'Spec'tacular 3D Films

Youngsters are in for a real treat at this year's film festival in Northern Ireland, as they will get the chance to feast their eyes on a selection of the finest 3D animations.
Films including Fly Me To The Moon and The Polar Express have been selected as part of The Foyle Film Festival's education programme to inspire and entertain audiences at the Nerve Centre cinema in Derry.
Fly Me To The Moon combines the Apollo 11 mission with a twist, involving an intrepid trio of flies who go along on an incredible space adventure. Spurred on by one daredevil, Grandpa (Christopher Lloyd), who claims to have accompanied Amelia Earhart on her trans-atlantic flight, they decide to stowaway on the upcoming moon mission.
In a completely enchanting way, the film introduces new generations to space exploration and the historic moment when the world was united for this awe-inspiring achievement.
Tim Evans from Sky Movies, explained why this is the ultimate 3D adventure: "Shot in state-of-the-art 3D, there are some stunning scenes, particularly the skyscraper-like Apollo moon rocket hurtling into orbit. It'll have you ducking under your seat."
With Christmas fast approaching, The Polar Express in 3D, pulls into the Nerve Centre at just the right time.
Written, produced, and directed by Robert Zemeckis, it stars actor Tom Hanks in five distinct roles, including the role of Santa Claus.
Festival Director and Programmer, Bernie McLaughlin believes the weekend education programme is an excellent way to introduce young minds to the world of filmmaking. She commented: "This year the education programme has had something for both primary and secondary students.
"The feedback from teachers is that the films and talks have really encouraged the young to engage with the art of film. 3D is emerging as a sophisticated form of story-telling which engages the audience and adds to the cinematic experience."
This year has witnessed growing demand for even more educational events, so much so, that the programme has now been extended by two weeks.
