Mistika Praised 'After' Successful Post

A leading European developer of high-end solutions for the post production and broadcast industries, SGO, has announced that Sevilla-based LZ Producciones used its post production system Mistika for the complete post production process of new Spanish feature film titled After.
Mistika was the post system of choice throughout the cinema project, which involved digital intermediate work, colour correction, restoration, visual effects, digital focus and final composition of some of the effects in the making of the film. Juan Ventura, Colourist, Effects Supervisor and Technical Director of LZ Producciones, described Mistika: "It represents versatility, power and productivity. Working in Mistika in 2K, and in real-time, the post production process at LZ Producciones required complete transparency between the editing suite and the other departments."
"Transparency was crucial due to the limited time we had for colour correction and effects due to the fact that the film narrates the stories of the three main characters, which meant adding editing challenges, as new changes of effects and colour grading had to be done during the process," he explained.
Filmed in 35 mm with three perforations, with an Arri camera, optic UltraPrime and Kodak Vision3, After, directed by Alberto Rodríguez and produced by José Antonio Félez, exposes the lives of three friends Manuel, Ana and Julio, as a facade.
In their late 30s, having achieved everything that society claims brings true happiness, they find themselves desperately searching for a solution to end their immense loneliness and emptiness.
Their paths cross again after a long time apart, sparking an escape back to adolescence as their way to avoid reality. After sums up their journey as the last stop, the last open bar and the end of the journey.
Some of the effects created in Mistika for the film included chromes, scene reconstruction, camera stabilisation, digital focus and virtual make up.
In one scene, where character Tristan is at a night club, masks were used in Mistika to effectively track and correct Tristan's colour so that he was emphasised compared to the others in the background.
"Another example of Mistika's input was in the scene where a balloon was hooked to an electricity wire.
"Layers were used by the post production team and composited using Mistika’s Comp3D tool, to enable us to successfully create colour layers, and alphas." added Juan.
After is currently showing in cinemas across Spain and will be shown at film festivals across the globe.
