NEC Switches From Analogue To Digital

The NEC Corporation has announced that it has completed the implementation of the digital terrestrial TV network in Denmark for the network operator, Broadcast Service Danmark A/S (BSD).
The switchover from analogue to digital took place on October 31, 2009 at midnight, marking a significant date in Danish television history.
BSD operates the national terrestrial TV networks in Denmark and NEC helped to deploy the digital platform by means of its transmitter product series, DTU-52 and DTL-10, which are the latest generation digital TV transmitter from NEC, providing compact design and high energy efficiency.
The building of the infrastructure was completed on time and BSD was on track to meet the target of the analogue shut down at midnight on October 31, 2009. NEC has contributed greatly to the delivery of this platform on time and in a cost effective way.
The nationwide transition from analogue to digital, a difficult process, was completed in only a few hours aided by NEC.
Digital TV offers BSD's customers a clearer, sharper picture and the potential for widescreen formats. It also provides the necessary flexibility to introduce new services, for example increased programme choice, mobility and HDTV.
Finn Søndergaard Pedersen, Chief Executive Officer Broadcast Service Danmark A/S said: "We are delighted to be among the first broadcasters in Europe to have made the switch. An analogue switch off is not an easy task and NEC has been a key partner in making this happen, on time, cost efficient and without any citizens being left without television for an extended period of time.
He continued: "We chose NEC as the supplier of digital TV transmitters among other reasons because we used its equipment in the first phase of the digital TV rollout and knew that their solutions demonstrate outstanding performance and reliability. Once again, NEC has not failed us."
Junji Yasui, Senior Vice President of NEC Corporation, said: "I'm greatly honoured to have been present at such a historical moment with Carina Christensen, Minister of Culture. It's very positive that BSD implemented the switchover on schedule."
A reception and press conference was held at BSD on October 31 at 10am to mark the switchover. The Minister of Culture provided a presentation.
