Metronome Chooses To Tango

The UK distributor for Australian control surface manufacturer Smart AV, eMerging, has installed a Tango touchscreen control surface at the studios of music-for-picture agency Metronome, run by composer Walter C Mair.
A rising star in the world of music-for-picture composition, Austrian-born Mair made a name for himself working on adverts for clients such as BMW, Mercedes and Audi, blending the electronic music he loves with full orchestral arrangements. Classically trained in his native Vienna and then Salzburg, he moved to London and set up studios in Soho, in the heart of London's post-production community there, with a composition studio based around Apple's Logic music production system.
His career has continued with soundtrack composition work for computer games giant Sega on such titles as Empire: Total Wat and Viking: Battle For Asgard, which featured full-sized orchestras and an 80-piece choir and were mixed at AIR Lyndhurst London. To cap off these successes, he is currently working on a soundtrack for a big-budget Hollywood film - his second so far.
Highly successful in his career, Mair has had much less luck finding a suitable mixing control surface for his Soho studio. He explained: "There didn't seem to be any point spending tens of thousands of pounds on a big console that would fill my studio, when most of my work is done in Apple's Logic. All I really needed was a control surface. I made various calls and looked at various control surfaces. but they were all too small and unimpressive or over-specified for my requirements.
In the end, somebody suggested that I look at Smart AV's Tango because of its integration with Logic, which led me to eMerging.
