Mount Venus Productions was established by award winning Producer/Director Karen McGrath.

Karen's films are a visual feast without ever losing sight of the story. This strong and unique style lends itself to both corporate and documentary video alike.


Biography

Karen Mc Grath has worked in television for almost twenty years both in Ireland, and the UK. As a director, her documentary work includes Trouble Up North, for BBC 1 an observational documentary on racial relationships between the Asian community and the National Front following the race riots in the North of England and the tension following September 11th. Her credits include Omagh One Year On for UTV which documents the lives of people in the aftermath of the Omagh bomb and a Panorama programme on bullying in schools in the U.K.

Following a Masters degree in Modern English Literature at University College Dublin, Karen worked for a few years in the Publishing Industry. She wrote her own business bestseller "Enterprise Ireland" in 1994 and ghost wrote other business books. She has also contributed to the Arts Section of the Sunday Business Post. In 1996, she went to London where she spent seven years working for the BBC, Channel 4 and various independent Television companies, like Lion Television and Ray Fitzwalter Productions. She produced such shows as Kilroy, The People’s Parliament, A Week in Politics and David Dickinson's The Antique Hunters. She went on to produce high profile documentaries for BBC and Channel 4 including Martin Bell’s political campaign and The Search for King Solomon’s Mines.

Karen returned from the UK in 2002 having gained a huge insight into television production across the factual, news, entertainment and documentary genres. Since then she has worked for a number of the leading Irish production companies directing popular programmes for RTE and BBC Northern Ireland like Ear to the Ground, About the House and A Little Bit Country for RTE. In Love Stories, Karen's unique take on documenting romance and use of archive saw her nominated for the European Fiat award in Madrid in 2006. Her touching road movie profiling the life of road racer, Joey Dunlop, The Last Lap for BBC NI earned her the award for Best Sports Documentary in 2004.

In 2004, Karen set up Mount Venus Productions to provide high quality productions for broadcasters and corporate clients. Her client list includes the Centre for Talented Youth, The Construction Industry Federation, Dolphin Records and Nationwide for RTE1. Working with a diverse range of professionals, business owners and artists, she has successfully brought her personable approach, all seeing eye and high production values to a host of clients and projects.
