About The National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales

The Archive is one of the largest audio-visual archives in Wales. Located within the National Library of Wales, it is home to a comprehensive and unrivalled collection of films, television programmes, videos, sound and music recordings relating to Wales. It includes over:
  • 5.5 million feet of film

  • 250,000 hours of video

  • 200,000 hours of sound recordings

From footage of David Lloyd George’s visit to Germany in 1936, to the first ever recording of the Welsh national anthem (Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau / Land of My Fathers) in 1898, the collection encompasses every aspect of the culture and life of Wales and its people as chronicled by audio-visual media – in sound, video, film and the latest digital formats.

The Archive provides research and footage licensing services to production companies. The latest rate card is available on the Archive website. Browse the online catalogue for a wealth of materials reflecting over a hundred years of Welsh life.
