DIGITALMENTORS ANNOUNCE SUITE OF PRODUCTS

DIGITALMENTORS have announced the availability of a suite of products designed to meet the growing need for information and skills on implementing digital TV solutions.
Based in Limerick, Ireland, the company is one of the leaders in pioneering the development of e-learning solutions for the global digital television industry sectors.
Digital Mentors' digital television curriculum is aimed at a wide range of employees working in the cable, satellite, terrestrial, multimedia or telecommunications industries who wish to gain a fundamental understanding of digital television, set-top boxes, electronic program guides and interactive TV applications.
The four courses in the program cover the principles of digital television, Interactive television, digital set-top boxes and Internet based TV technologies. These courses are graded as foundation and are suited to a broad audience, ranging from upper management to customer service representatives. Students need only possess a general familiarity of digital technologies to undertake the courses.
The courses are designed to bring the student to a certain level of knowledge from where they can move into more specialised courses provided by Digital Mentors.
The first course entitled ‘Introduction to Digital Television’ explains the evolution of television and the basic differences between analogue and digital television. It also addresses the various broadcast standards that are relevant to digital broadcasting.
The second course explains the services offered by Interactive television. It also looks into issues such as design, standardisation, copyright, security, server technologies and the many more benefits and features associated with Interactive television.
The third course in the curriculum entitled ‘Digital Set top boxes’ looks at the functionality of a set-top box and the different types of set-top boxes that are available. It also examines the core technologies that are involved in processing and broadcasting Interactive television content.
The final course entitled ‘Internet based TV applications’ looks at the evolution of the Internet and its expected influence on Interactive television, and the technologies that will enable this to happen. It also addresses the subject of TV e-mail.
