GatesAir To Exhibit At CABSAT 2018

News Image
GatesAir has announced it will attend CABSAT 2018, Stand ZB4-B31, to demonstrate its high-efficiency transmitter advances and IP networking solutions.

At the event, which takes place 14 – 16 January at the Dubai World Trade Centre, GatesAir will focus on single-frequency networks (SFN) and liquid- and air-cooled transmission systems. The company will highlight how its transmitter designs and intelligent IP networking solutions can strengthen infrastructure in support of FM radio and TV delivery.

Radio
GatesAir will showcase its Flexiva FLX liquid-cooled and FAX air-cooled systems, providing broadcasters with a range of efficient transmitter options to strengthen existing FM radio infrastructure and/or establish single-frequency networks to improve coverage and eliminate RF interference. Supporting power levels from 50 watts to more than 88kW, the architecture of Flexiva transmitters enables scalability through identical power blocks, allowing broadcasters to build systems to their exact specifications. Flexiva transmitters integrate Intraplex IP Link codecs with built-in SynchroCast technology to support SFNs, time-locking audio delivery via GPS across multiple low-to-medium power transmitters. This allows broadcasters to cover a wider region with a high-quality signal, and fill in coverage gaps across challenging terrain in a spectrum-efficient manner.

The latest Intraplex solution – the Intraplex IP Link MPXp codec – will also be exhibited. Ideal for use in single-frequency networking, studio-to-transmitter applications, the IP Link MPXp codec opens up more signal transport options from a single, compact device at low bitrates for digital and analog MPX composite audio transport. This bandwidth efficiency enables increased packet protection, additional audio and data services and reduced connectivity costs.

The IP Link MPXp is the first FM MPX IP codec to support – separately or together – AES 192 digital (at an industry-low 1.65Mb/s) and analog composite signal transport over a secure and reliable digital IP path. Public internet connections are supported with the inclusion of three network ports, a built-in firewall and patented packet-loss technology.

Television
Also at CABSAT, GatesAir will also demonstrate its Maxiva family of UAXTE air-cooled and ULXTE liquid-cooled, IP-enabled UHF TV transmitters in the Middle East for the first time. Available in power levels from 10 watts to 150kW on all modulations, the Maxiva incorporates the latest LDMOS transistors and RF devices for efficiency and power gains. Overall transmitter efficiency has been raised from 42% to 45%, while a 20% power increase allows broadcasters to get more power out of a smaller transmitter.

The transmitters integrate GatesAir's latest-generation Maxiva XTE exciter. Featuring a software-defined modulator and native IP inputs, the XTE removes the need to retrofit transmitters with additional gear to transition broadcasters from analog to digital TV. This gives broadcasters an out-of-the-box solution to simplify the input and output of DVB-T2 and DVB-T2 Lite multimedia services via a local- or wide-area IP networks. The XTE-driven modulation reduces costs and power consumption by increasing efficiency at the amplification stage, without affecting signal strength. Integrated real-time adaptive correction software enhances signal correction to optimise overall performance.

Darren Frearson, VP of Sales, EMEA and APAC, GatesAir, said: "CABSAT is the premiere event in the Middle East to showcase our latest problem-solving innovations for broadcasters seeking to upgrade aging TV and radio infrastructure, launch new services, and lay the groundwork for future digital TV and radio transitions. We look forward to meeting with our customers and partners across the region, and help them deliver rich media services to their audiences by leveraging forward-looking technologies that at once improve performance, raise operational efficiency, and lower their total cost of ownership."
