Van Diemen Expands Office

News Image
Van Diemen Films has been established for 34 years and have recently expanded into new offices to accommodate increasing levels of new business, new lens designs and ongoing service and repair work.

The company design and manufacture motion picture lenses using a patented Wireform™ lens movement technology. This patented movement allows the speed of focusing to vary throughout the movement from close focus to infinity. This variable pitch movement provides improved focus scale markings and easier focus pulling. The Wireform itself has the additional benefit of durability in service and resilience under severe conditions.

There is no requirement for adjustments to suit climatic extremes. These conversions suit lenses designed for super 16, Super 35 and full frame formats. The Van Diemen team are always willing to take on new and bespoke conversion work.

The Van Diemen Service Centre is well-equipped with highly skilled engineers offering optical expertise in the field of maintenance and repair of optical systems. The company has maintained video and film lenses for major rental houses as well as private clients in the UK and worldwide over many years. They take on large video lenses used in outside broadcast through to very small lenses used for special purposes for example wild life photography in confined spaces.

The company has taken on some major bespoke engineering projects. Currently in process:
i) Lomo Square Front Anamorphics.
Extensive conversions of these lenses using Cooke and/or Lomo lenses are in progress. The major features in these conversions are a new focus movement with fine and much improved tolerances. Built within the strict confines of the PL mounting requirement and the restricted space available to accommodate the anamorphic focusing system. In the conversion process the lenses are provided with a new round front.

ii) Round Front Lomo Anamorphics.
These lenses have always been inconvenient to operate in their original form. The conversion offered by Van Diemen provides conveniently situated focus and iris drive gears as well as an internally focusing movement providing a fixed front for the mounting of accessories. This is a first for these lenses.

iii) Cine Iscorama Conversions.
The latest development is a unitary Leica Isco full 24 x 6 coverage product offering focal lengths from 35mm upwards. Also available are two forms of Isco screw-on conversions with closer focus capability and in the case of the V2 system a much shorter focus pull. The range of Isco conversions has now been extended to include the larger Isco 54.

iv) 24 x 36 Coverage Lenses.
An entirely new lens movement has been designed to allow for the use of wide angled lenses with this coverage without compromising the format. With additional features providing dual scaling and front diameters from 114mm client selectable.

Van Diemen Films have an extensive inventory of lens designs many of which but not all are shown on the website. If the choice of conversion is not on display it does not imply that a conversion is not either available or can readily be carried out.
