RTE's Irish Language News Service To Relocate to Baile na hAbhann

RTE's Irish language television news service is to be relocated to Baile na hAbhann in County Galway with an investment programme of over €2m in new technology.
The Director General of RTE Cathal Goan has announced that agreement has been reached with TG4 that RTE's Irish language television news service Nuacht RTE will originate from Baile na hAbhann in addition to the service RTE already provides to TG4 as Nuacht TG4.
Goan said: "The move is a significant development in terms of the RTE commitment to both Irish language and regional development.
"The Connemara Gaeltacht is a positive choice of location for an Irish language news service."
Work on this aspect of the project will start early in the new year and it is hoped that the first transmissions of Nuacht RTE will come from Baile na hAbhann in late 2008.
The RTE Nuacht service employs almost 40 people with a reporting presence in nine centres nationwide.
