Hollywood Dazzled As Prince William Backs British Film
Royal newly weds Prince William and Kate will arrive in Los Angeles on July 8th to promote the best of British film and television to an already captive audience of Hollywood stars.
Following their impending week-long tour of Canada, they are expected to underline the Prince's recent appointment as President of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, (BAFTA).
He has asked the organisation to propose an event with suggestions to date including an English tea party, a cricket match and also a more formal gala evening to promote the British film industry.
It has already been reported that any such event attended by the royal couple will be the hottest ticket in town - assuring BAFTA of a massive mid summer boost.
The Mail on Sunday has reported: "The Royal visit is the talk of Hollywood. The deal is that several stars and organisations have been asked to put forward proposals for charity events and galas.
"William and Kate will go through all the options and it will be down to them to pick what they want to do."
It has also emerged that Sir Elton John and David Furnish are offering to host a party to introduce the Duke and Duchess to Hollywood, with an event at the luxurious Beverly Wilshire hotel and producer Steve Tisch, whose films include Forrest Gump, has offered to host a formal gathering at his £25m Malibu mansion.
It was announced at the Orange British Academy Film Awards in 2010 that Prince William was to succeed Lord Attenborough as the fifth President of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
David Parfitt, Chair of BAFTA, said at the time: "The Academy has had a long association with the Royal Family and we are absolutely delighted that HRH Prince William has agreed to become our President."
It now looks like the BAFTA Los Angeles' branch is about to reap an early return from their high profile royal patronage.
