Merging 'Wins' At The Grammys
Merging Technologies' Pyramix digital audio workstation was used in the recording, mastering and editing of many of the winning recordings announced at the recent 2011 Grammy awards in Los Angeles, California.
King of the hill amongst the Pyramix-using winners at the prestigious ceremony was US-based classical producer David Frost who picked up no less than four Grammys during the evening. Next to country group Lady Antebellum, who bagged five awards, Frost was the single winner of the most awards this year at the 2011 ceremony.
In addition to winning the coveted Grammy for Classical Producer of the Year, David won awards in the categories Best Choral Performance and Best Classical Album for CSO Resound's recording of Verdi's Requiem, conducted by Riccardo Muti and performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, which he produced.
He also won an award as Surround Producer of Reference Recordings' Britten's Orchestra, conducted by Michael Stern and performed by the Kansas City Symphony. The Verdi album was recorded, edited and mastered on Pyramix, while Britten's Orchestra was mastered using the workstation.
David Frost commented: "I was really thrilled about my recent Grammy Awards and I've been very fortunate to collaborate with so many great artists, organisations and engineers. We all depend on each other and on a variety of tools. I've used Pyramix extensively to record, edit, mix and master my projects for years now, and I've always gotten great results. The editing is among the best I've ever seen and I depend on it every day. I think it's an excellent system, and I am very glad to have it."
Other successes at the Grammys for Pyramix users included producer Mark Donahue, who won as Producer of Naxos's recording of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra playing Michael Daugherty's Deus Ex Machina and also the Metropolis Symphony. The Naxos recording won the Grammy for Best Engineered Classical Album.
These awards add to the award obtained by Mastering Engineer Adam Ayan at last November's Latin Grammy awards. Ayan, one of the key team at Gateway Mastering in Portland, Maine, won as Mastering Engineer of Juan Luis Guerra's A Son De Guerra, which picked up the Album Of The Year (Album del Ano) Latin Grammy 2010.
He commented: "Pyramix has been my choice DAW for some time now. Given the amount of complex work I do, great sound and efficient workflow are key, and the Pyramix provides me with both. I am honoured to have won another Latin Grammy for Album of the Year, and to see so many recordings that I mastered using the Pyramix nominated for Grammys this year, including a win for Keith Urban!"
To cap all this success, recordings made using Pyramix were nominated for no less than five further awards at this year's Grammy ceremony, making it one of the best years for recordings made using Pyramix.
