Shed Wins Online Drama Commission
A Scottish media group has been commissioned to make its first online drama, Being Victor.
After a competitive tender, CTVC awarded Shed Media Scotland £250,000 to make the show, which was matched by Scottish Screen's Digital Media IP Fund.
The not-for-profit religion and ethics specialist commissioned Shed Media to make a 20-part web soap opera.
Being Victor is the first online drama from Shed's Scottish arm, which hosts the Waterloo Road producer's digital headquarters.
The 20 x 5-minute series has a total budget of £500,000, which will be jointly provided by CTVC and Scottish Screen's Digital Media IP Fund, which is financed by Scottish Enterprise and the Creative Scotland Innovation Fund.
The series will be posted on the indie’s youth-targeted site True-Tube, which has to date largely featured factual material, much of it repurposed from CTVC's documentary archive.
Shed will also produce a standalone site and blog, written from the point of view of a character from the series.
Waterloo Road writers David McManus and Laura Klimke will write the scripts from an original idea by Shed Productions' Head of Development, Lee Mason.
The executive producers are Ann McManus and Margaret Scott and the series will be produced and directed by Robert Elliott.
Shed is believed to be talking to other platforms and broadcasters about distributing the series.
Eileen Gallagher, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Shed Productions explained: "This is a huge step forward for Shed Media’s digital strategy. We have based our digital headquarters in Scotland because we believe Scotland is at the cutting edge of digital content."
Meanwhile, Peter Weil, CEO at CTVC said: "We are thrilled to have joined forces with Scottish Screen to be able to give this opportunity to Shed Media to produce 'Being Victor'. We believe this partnership between Scottish Screen, Shed Media and CTVC will lead to an entertaining and innovative way of engaging our target youth audience in frank discussion about the social and moral issues they and their friends encounter every day."
