Millions spent on production in Cornwall
Pippa Best, Project Director at Cornwall Film, has revealed that millions of pounds were spent on production in Cornwall in 2005.
She said: “Cornwall Film supported four feature-length Rosamund Pilcher adaptations. These spent over £800,000 in Cornwall, creating 18 jobs for local cast and crew, and using local restaurants and accommodation.”
Producer Elvira Bolz said: “Cornwall offers a fantastic choice of locations, experienced crew, and local production facilities. Support from the local Council, Cornwall Film, and the National Trust has been tremendous.”
The TV dramas are hugely popular in Germany and regularly attract over 7 million viewers, many of whom travel to Cornwall to visit locations featured in the films such as Prideaux Place and Godolphin House.
Local production companies have also fared well in 2005. Penryn based production company Oscha received Cornwall Film finance towards the production of two new DVD titles ‘Heart of a Garden’ and ‘Wildlife Wrecks and Reefs’. Oscha have filmed at Trebah Gardens, Pencarrow, Caerhays, Prideaux Place and Tresco Abbey Gardens.
Pippa Best said “It’s fantastic to be attracting so many productions to Cornwall, boosting the economy and creating local jobs. Our online Production Guide at www.cornwallfilm.com is regularly being used by producers searching for Cornish crew and services. The local media network, www.cornwallmediafocus.co.uk is growing steadily, with over 250 members. Cornwall Film still wants to hear from more film, TV and new media production companies looking for support; and from freelance crew who want to register online and work closer to home. We’ve launched some exciting new schemes and 2006 will bring many more investments to support the growth of Cornwall’s media sector.”
